Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie has been announced as a member of the host committee for the 2025 MET Gala. Formally known as the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute Benefit, the MET Gala is an annual fundraiser that brings together celebrities, fashion designers, and industry leaders to celebrate the intersection of fashion, art, and business. The event is extravagant with its high-profile guest list and stunning looks and red-carpet arrivals.
The 2025 exhibition is themed “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style,” with the dress code theme “Tailored for Us”. The theme is inspired by guest curator Monica L. Miller’s 2009 book, Slaves to Fashion: Black Dandyism and the Styling of Black Diasporic Identity. This will be the Costume Institute Benefit’s first return to focusing on menswear since 2003’s “Men in Skirts” collection. Vogue revealed that the exhibition will comprise “clothing, photographs, fine art, historical texts and artifacts.”
This year’s committee is chaired by basketball icon LeBron James, and co-chaired by actor Colman Domingo, Formula 1 driver Lewis Hamilton, rapper A$AP Rocky, designer and music producer Pharrell Williams, and Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour.
As a member of the host committee, Adichie will play an important role in shaping the tone and direction of the exhibition, which is expected to run from May 10 to October 26, 2025 — although the main MET Gala event day is in May. Other committee members include Nigerian-British actor Ayo Edebiri and South African singer Tyla.
It’s no surprise to see Adichie — our September 2021 cover star — in this role, given her status as a culture icon and her active involvement in fashion.
She sat front row at the Spring 2017 Dior show in Paris. Last November, she was one of Harper’s Bazaar España’s Woman of the Year award recipients and graced the cover of the magazine’s “Stars Issue.”
Her selection also coincides with the rollout of her fourth novel Dream Count, out in March of 2025. We are unsure if she is the first writer to be selected for the committee.

They’ll be among attendees seated for a dinner prepared by Nigerian-American chef Kwame Onwuachi, amid décor by Cy Gavin, Derek McLane, and Raúl Avila.
Artists whose works would be on display include Torkwase Dyson, Tanda Francis, Tyler Mitchell, and Iké Udé, who is also a special consultant for the event. All the guests will sit for a dinner prepared by Nigerian-American chef Kwame Onwuachi.
