The University of Pittsburgh has announced details of a forthcoming poetry prize. The 2021 Center for African American Poetry and Poetics Book Prize, open for submissions till 16 February 2021, “will be awarded to a first or second book by a writer of African descent and is open to the full range of writers embodying African and African diasporic experience.”
The prize is open to poetry, hybrid work, speculative prose, and translation.
The winning manuscript will be published by Autumn House Press later in the year, and its author will be awarded $3,000.
The 2020 prize was awarded to the American poet Carly Inghram. One of the finalists was the Nigerian poet Wale Ayinla, nominated for his collection Sea Blues on Water Meridian.
