The Board of Trustees and Management of the Society of Book and Magazine Editors of Nigeria (SBMEN) are proud to announce its first editing workshop for the year themed: “Design Your Editorial Life: Tools, Training and Opportunities.” A virtual training scheduled to hold from 27 to 28 February 2021.

This training is the first part of SBMEN’s annual four-part training course. Budding and aspiring editors will benefit from this course and professional editors can refresh their knowledge.

According to the Executive Director, Anwuli Ojogwu, “With more and more people, entering the editing industry from other industries such as law and finance, it is important to provide foundational knowledge on what an editorial career entails. The skills of an editor are universal, in-demand and applicable in other careers beyond publishing.”

The training will explore a broad range of subjects from the role of the editor, writing, content forms, editing and kickstarting a freelance career, which are necessary to succeed as an editor.

It will be facilitated by accomplished experts including Otosirieze Obi-Young, writer, culture journalist and founder of Open Country Mag; Omolola Opatayo, writer, editor and founder of literary consultancy WordCaps; and Anwuli Ojogwu, ED/co-founder of SBMEN.

The workshop will be delivered through lectures, interactive sessions, class exercises, case studies, and breakout sessions.

Interested editors and writers are encouraged to apply.
